I'm currently working on a set of costumes based on these characters:

Here are some sketches done at the end of October, for your viewing pleasure. I will apologize for my long absence, but I have been sewing my fingers down to the bone, quite literally. In the next couple of weeks I will be posting updates of my progress on 17 costumes for the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society's competition production of Where the Wild Things are.

Enjoy!

Steam Engines, Corsets and Night Vision Goggles

The fantastic Kyle Cassidy recently contacted me to gauge my interest in doing a steampunk photo using one of my costumes... Here's the gorgeous outcome:

Also involved; Jared Axelrod of planetx
The photo will be a lobby poster for the University of Pennsylvania's “Performing Science” conference.
If you look closely, you can see the un-photoshopped SCRAPE on my left shin that I procured while swinging myself over the fence to get to the engine. As of 3:23pm today, the whole shin has a nice yellow hue.

It was a pleasure to spend a VERY full half hour early on a Tuesday morning, with two such creative people.

Making-of-the-costume posts here and here.

Quick Steampunk Jewelry Update

Vintage pearl and button additions... I had to file down the top button so that it fit in that space...

Earrings:

Eventually, the button should be a watch.

Latest update on the steampunk costume... the photos are blurry because I'm never home during daylight hours :-/

The necklace so far:

There are little concave spots for swarovski crystals or something... so I might need to make a quick trip to the store for some. I might add some other elements to it as well... like a rusty button or an old key.

I'm still debating whether to make a bustle/skirt for this costume, so if you have any input, please comment!

Also debating a quick appliqué.

Leave me a thought!
