"if your brother or your sister's got some cool clothes
You could try them on before you buy some more of those...We've got to learn to
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"

- Jack Johnson

Redesigning Garments is a great way to bring new life back to a favorite t-shirt, create a believable character or to add your own flair to something that's not quite hitting the mark.

I've worked with TV shows, Films, PHotographers, brides and individuals who needed something altered *just so*.  I take a great deal of pleasure in watching a new creation emerge from its original form.

Aging or Distressing textiles is one of my favorite activities.  There are so many ways to "break down" a costume, and the devil's in the details.

Tech-dyes and over-dying are ways to give a new (or old) look to a garment by altering the color.

Working on GIRLS Season 3, I had the delightful opportunity to work with Jenn Rogien.  She asked me to come up with some custom dye baths for many of our costume pieces that year, including those undies that Lena is so grateful for; Custom dyed and stained to dishrag quality by yours truly, using only the finest dyes and stains.

"Our costume dept has realized that if they want me in underwear they have to provide them. And they do. Every day. I love the @girlsHBO crew."

In the slideshow below, I aged six pairs of jeans - taking them from raw denim to match our actor's personal jeans for a scene in Very Good Girls, a film by Naomi Foner, and costume designed by David Tabbert.
